DIY Therapeutic Bath Bombs
A great part about owning your own skincare business is that you always have gifts on hand. I don't know how often we've been running out the door for a party or event, and my husband or I say to one another..."Should we bring something?"I don't know, grab some soap to be safe!"
But by the time Christmas comes around, I don't have anything to give my family, Modern Hippie product-wise, that they don't already have, so I have to start racking my brain for some NEW, creative DIYs.
This year, the new addition to my DIY repertoire is Therapeutic Bath Bombs! I'm surprised I've never made these guys for gifts before.
Aside from the Bath Salts, Bath Bombs is one of the simple skin care recipes you can create and a great place to start if you're new to the DIY scene.
They're also super impressive, and if you're making them as gifts, your friends and family will assume you're some chemist/genius. If you've never enjoyed bathing alongside a fizzy bath bomb, you're in for a real treat.
As they fizz and dissolve in the warm water, they release therapeutic essential oils and flower petals and soften the water. Sounds lovely. I'll admit that telling my daughter she can choose a bath bomb for the tub makes bath time more manageable. And as a bonus, my kids come out smelling like little flowers :)
By adding your unique blend of therapeutic-grade essential oils, you can use these Bath Bombs for various purposes. Just check out the chart below! Read on to find out how you can be the fave gift-giver of the family this year...
How to Make Therapeutic Bath Bombs
Bath bombs are fun for kids and relaxing for adults, and they make an ideal addition to any Modern Hippie gift basket!
You'll need:
-Bath bomb moulds - these can be official, circular bath bomb moulds like this, small silicone moulds like the ones I'm using, or mini-muffin tins
-Spoon and bowl for mixing
-Spritz bottle
Ingredients:
2 cups Baking Soda
1 cup Citric Acid
1/2 cup Arrowroot Powder or Corn Starch
Witch Hazel in a Spritz Bottle for wetting the mix. The alcohol content in the witch hazel will allow the bath bombs to release from the moulds more efficiently and prevent premature fizzing - just using water as the moisturizing agent would cause the bath bomb to take hours to release from the moulds.
Optional Ingredients:
Essential oils (find a wide range of organic essential oils here)
Cosmetic clays, like French green or Australian pink for colour
Epsom Salts or Pink Himalayan Salt
Method:
Mix baking soda, arrowroot powder, and citric acid in a large mixing bowl - this is your generic Bath Bomb Mixture.
At this point, I separate the bath bomb mixture into three small bowls to make three different bath bombs. If you only intend on making one type, work with one cup of the mix at a time.
Add your desired essential oils and optional ingredients - I've shared my favourite recipes below!
While stirring, Spritz the mixture using the witch hazel or Modern Hippie Facial Toner. You don't want to spray too much witch hazel in one area without mixing, or it will start to fizz.
Spritz the mixture until it's the consistency of damp sand, and it binds together when you squeeze it.
Immediately press the bath bomb mix into your moulds using the back of a spoon. Allow the mixture to dry for 5-10 minutes (longer if you're making large bath bombs), and pop them out.
Store in a dry place with a lid, and add to your bath as desired!
