How My Journey Began

Hello, I'm Carly and Welcome to Modern Hippie Inc.- a glimpse into the brain of an ADHD-prenuer! I’ve to incorporate my skills, passions and hobbies (and there are a lot!) into a business where I can share my knowledge and help others turn their ideas into business, too! 

The Modern Hippie Blog

I started the Modern Hippie Blog in 2013 to share sustainable living DIYs and healthy recipes.

But I wasn't always a Modern Hippie. I was once a carefree, bad-ass party girl living day-by-day like it was my last (I'm still wondering how I survived University).

My journey to a cleaner, greener life started shortly after my first daughter was born in 2012. Because as you may know, having a child encourages you to consider a future.

As Scarlett's MOM, I not only had to keep myself alive, but I had to keep her alive, too! Not only that, I was forced to start thinking about the future and what that may look like for this precious little bean.

Once I took off the rose-coloured glasses, I realized that the next generation has a pretty grim future if this generation doesn't get their sh*t together. At that point, I became next-level obsessed with doing my part to decrease my family's environmental footprint.

But then I had a thought:

“I'm doing all this research and creating some pretty awesome non-toxic alterntives to everyday household products; I might as well start a blog while Scarlett is napping to share my knowledge and try to inspire other to do the same!”

Well, that one thought changed the trajectory of my life. The Modern Hippie Blog was born in 2013 and was a big success! What followed was that the blog took off, and a string of other businesses new businesses were born under the Modern Hippie Inc. umbrella, including skin care, a retail store, a farm stand, a digital design and marketing company and a permaculture landscape design + services business and a short-term rental!

Today

I live on the Sunshine Coast, B.C., Canada, with my husband, Jerome and our four daughters! We live on a 1/3 acre min-homestead with 22 chickens, five ducks and our precious kitty, Olive. In the summer, we grow and forage most of our food and sell the excess at the Modern Hippie Home Stand, which sits at the front of our house. No matter how busy I get, I’ll always have time to learn new skills and pass that knowledge to my daughters. My newest venture is helping like-minded creatives and entrepreneurs monetize the passions that inspire them.
