My family has finally, fully switched over to homemade toothpaste. I have been using it for a while now, but my husband has been hanging onto his last, empty tube, somehow squeezing out a little more each time, for what seems to be a couple of months now. Once he had no other options (because I wouldn’t buy anymore), he decided to try my “hippie toothpaste”– I think he was pleasantly surprised. See ya later Colgate–we’re out!
I’ll admit it – I’m a sun-worshiper! I LOVE basking in the sunlight and having a golden tan. I also know now that I’ve probably done some damage from “extreme” sun-tanning as a teen, and tanning beds during University years. As I get older (and slightly wiser), I’m realizing that I don’t want to look like a leather-face in 20 years. I need to start being more conscious of my exposure to the sun and protect my skin, my freckly husband’s skin, and my fair and delicate-skinned daughter—so that’s my mommy mission.
So another weekend unfolds, and my kitchen, once again, resembles a meth lab (Breaking Bad fan over here.) This weekend I’ve been experimenting with body butter. And I don’t mean to “toot my own horn” but, after some trial and error, I’ve really nailed it–this body butter is one-of-a-kind!
I’m really excited to share my homemade facial cleanser recipe with you. Like many, I have acne-prone skin (which fluctuates with hormones) and winter-eczema on my face. However, since using a combo my homemade facial cleanser with avocado oil & honey, and lavender face moisturizer, my hormonal pimples, and eczema have drastically diminished! I’ve really had great results with this combo, and I sincerely hope someone else can benefit from this too. Using three simple ingredients, avocado oil, honey and castile soap, I’ve concocted a homemade, facial cleanser that has changed my life.
For me, making my own deodorant was the pivotal turning point from regular housewife to hippie housewife. But am I really a hippie, or just an informed, realistic, wife and mother who’s concerned about the health and wellness of herself and family? Perhaps a bit of both…
I’ve replaced my cleaning products, pillaged my pantry, and now my focus is detoxifying my toiletries and beauty products. I’m proud to say that I have now replaced my hair spray, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizers, deodorant and toothpaste with homemade alternatives. Today, I’m excited to share my Lavender Face Moisturizer with you!
