I love sharing my recipes with you. It is, after all, the reason that I started this blog…but it really has become so much more then that. It’s my creative outlet, a way to connect with like-minded people, a place where I can learn and grow within my writing and photography…and I great way to distract myself from my looming infertility issues (bet I never told you that before!)
Every month I receive messages and emails from fellow modern hippies asking for my homemade shampoo recipe. Sadly, I have never had a recipe to report, and simply reply, “I’m workin’ on it.” But today, I’m happy to finally share a DIY shampoo recipe that I actually like LOVE!

I would never promote a product that I wouldn’t use myself. If you’re reading this, then most likely either you, or someone you care about, struggle with the discomfort of itchy, scaly, annoying, and down right baffling, eczema. And like me, you’ve probably scoured the internet for answers only to find that there is no single cause for eczema, there is “no known cure,” and that…

It’s November 25th, 2014, and it just hit me….holiday spirit. I try to hold off on decorating and Christmas music until, strictly, December, 1st, although this year, I’ve allowed myself to break out my favorite, antique, pink christmas bulbs early and pop on a little easy-listening Christmas music. Currently, I’m cozied up on the couch with a cup of tea, beside a rip-roaring fire, that I impressively made myself, and listening to my husband’s favorite Christmas song: Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You (he’s going to kill me for saying that, but at least if I get…

By far, the most popular post on this blog is the Homemade Coconut Oil Toothpaste recipe! I get why – it’s an easy recipe and great alternative to store-bought, glycerin and fluoride-filled toothpaste. It’s also inexpensive to make, works, and the taste….well, it’s not awful, but to be honest, not amazing either. That being said, that doesn’t stop my toddler from eating it! Toddlers are grossy. Although I’d grown accustomed to this rather salty, non-sudsing toothpaste, I REALLY missed that minty-fresh-breathe feeling that lingers after a good brush–like you’d expect to see your breathe if you blew air.
Summer is here, which means shaving-and-grooming-body-hair-season is here too! I figured that I should hurry up and post this recipe for the BEST Homemade Shaving Cream before summer is over and we slip back in to our furry, not-so-groomed selves. Of course, it’s my personal opinion that this is the BEST Homemade Shaving Cream, so if you happen to disagree….well, let’s be honest, you’ve probably messed it up somehow.
Tis’ the season to share my “F-Off” All-Natural Bug Spray recipe! If you’d like to avoid getting eaten alive by mosquitoes this summer, and you’d also like to avoid spraying harsh chemicals on your skin, then “F-Off” is a must! And, if you’re like me, and you scratch your mosquito bites until you’re dripping with blood and covered in scabs—well then “F-Off” is a double must!
When I posted my recipe for All-Natural Deodorant with Tea-Tree, some of you told me that because you have sensitivities to baking soda, you aren’t able to use deodorant that contains it, without developing a rash. Well guess what? I WAS LISTENING! Since then, I’ve been experimenting with baking soda-free deodorant, and have come up with a solution just for you: Baking soda free deodorant bars with bentonite clay! I couldn’t discriminate! No-one wants to be stinky, or be stuck using a toxic alternative! What’s the secret to my success, you might ask? Bentonite Clay! What the heck is bentonite clay, you…

I recently had the pleasure of receiving my first facial at a spa! It was surprisingly relaxing (as relaxed as I’m capable of achieving). Afterwards, my skin felt like a million bucks–softer and lighter, like a years worth of dead skin cells had just been scrubbed off of my epidermis. I walked out of the room thinking, “Wow, I need to get facials all the time!” And then I instantly took that thought back once I strolled up to the counter and paid my $120 bill. Luckily, I had a gift card, and my trip to the spa had been a wedding present….

My family has finally, fully switched over to homemade toothpaste. I have been using it for a while now, but my husband has been hanging onto his last, empty tube, somehow squeezing out a little more each time, for what seems to be a couple of months now. Once he had no other options (because I wouldn’t buy anymore), he decided to try my “hippie toothpaste”– I think he was pleasantly surprised. See ya later Colgate–we’re out!
